Description
This is the latest in our series of jazz releases from the archive comprising previously unreleased recordings
This is the latest in our series of jazz releases from the archive of the Ackerman collection comprising previously unreleased recordings, mainly of 'live' material. This features Woody Herman's highly regarded line-up from the mid-'50s, the Third Herd, recorded in Portland Oregon in late 1952. One CD comprises a concert performance, including many tunes which Woody had only recently recorded at sessions on the West Coast in September and October of that year, with several featuring Dolly Houston on vocals, while the other CD has tracks believed to be from a dance hall date around the same time, again with Dolly Houston on vocals. Also included are 'live 'tracks featuring the great Dinah Washington with Herman's Herd, also from late '52. The recording quality is excellent, and the collection is a must for any fans and collectors of the great bandleader.
