Other Finnish Works For Violin brings the forgotten compositions of women composers with a Finnish backgroun to the forefront
The album Other Finnish Violin Works brings back the forgotten compositions of women composers with a Finnish background to our cultural memory, concert programs, classrooms, and the history of Finnish music. The album contains 12 tracks from six composers for violin and piano, most of which are premieres. These composers with a Finnish background, who lived at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, are united by cosmopolitanism. Agnes Tschetschulin, Ida Moberg, Minna von Knorring, Betzy Holmberg, Laura Netzel and Ingeborg von Bronsart studied, performed and taught in Central Europe during in which case Finnish cultural institutions did not offer women jobs or status.
Mirka Malmi and Tiina Karakorpi have worked long-term on women's music.
Malmi's concert series Woman and Violin (2018-2020) presented violin and chamber music by Nordic composers from 1850-1950, culminating in the premiere of Ida Moberg's Violin Concerto,Malmi as soloist. Karakorpi is active as a member of the KAAÃ
S Piano Trio, as a performer at the Kokonainen Festival, which promotes equal concert life, and as the artistic director of the Nurmijärvi Festival. The musicianship of both involves close collaboration with music researchers and music journalists.
