Emerging from the chaotic backdrop of Los Angeles, The Dark is set to make waves with their debut EP, In Heaven There's Nothing to See, releasing February 21, 2025, via Arising Empire. Formed by Craig Johns Jr. and Alan Ashby (formerly of metal stalwarts Of Mice & Men), the band also features drummer Derek Vautrinot and bassist Nick Goins. Together, they channel influences ranging from Nine Inch Nails and Deftones to White Zombie and Filter.
The EP, featuring five tracks, includes the breakout singles 'Chemicals' and 'Slip Away,' both of which delve into themes of addiction, self-awareness, and the darker sides of human nature. 'Chemicals,' premiered on BBC Radio 1's Rock Show, garnered over 200,000 Spotify streams in under a month and climbed the Kerrang Chart. Meanwhile, 'Slip Away' continues the story, exploring the pain of confronting oneself and rising on SiriusXM Octane's active rock playlist.
The band's music is as raw and unapologetic as their city's gritty reality. 'This band is our love letter to the dark side of human nature,' explains vocalist Craig Johns Jr., whose lyrics stem from personal struggles.
The Dark will celebrate the release of their In Heaven There's Nothing To See EP with a headline show at The Echo in Los Angeles on February 23, 2025, following December tour dates with Red Jumpsuit Apparatus.
