An extremely prolific chamber musician, Forbes has founded the IsthmusÃÂ Brass (Wisconsin's leading large brass ensemble with a new Summit RecordsÃÂ release: ÃÂ 'Isthmus Brass Christmas') and the Isthmus Brass Quintet (a hipÃÂ sextet of trumpets, horn, trombone, tuba and percussion). ÃÂ He has alsoÃÂ
co-founded The Wild Trio with hornist Charles Tibbetts and is a co-founderàof the Sotto Voce Quartet, Americaââ¬â¢s premiere tuba/euphonium quartet.àSotto Voce enjoys an international touring schedule and has released aànumber of recordings also on Summit Records. Their latest CD, 'Take ThisàHammer: àWorks Composed for Sotto Voce' feature two of Forbes's originalàworks for quartet: à'Bridge: àA Mini-Requiem for Countertenor and TubaàQuartet' and 'Four Miniatures,' a work Forbes was commissioned to writeàfor the International Tuba/Euphonium Conference Tuba Quartet Competitionàheld in Budapest, Hungary in 2004. àThe other recordings also featureàForbesââ¬â¢s many compositions and arrangements for the quartet genre, many ofàwhich can be found in the Editions BIM catalog. àRecently, Sotto Voceàtoured Norway and gave special clinics and concerts at the GriegÃÂ
Conservatory, Manger Conservatory, and performed as a headline group atÃÂ the BrassWind Festival in Bergen.
In addition to the works for Sotto Voce, Forbes is a regularlyÃÂ commissioned composer currently serving as a low brass specialist forÃÂ Kendor Music and as a middle & high school band and orchestra composer forÃÂ Carl Fischer and FJH Music publishing companies. ÃÂ He has recently beenÃÂ commissioned by the National Band Association of Wisconsin to compose aÃÂ new work for their 25th State Band Festival. ÃÂ Forbes has repeatedly wonÃÂ the Dallas Wind Symphony Fanfare Composition Competition and his worksÃÂ have received numerous awards and accolades by The U.S. Army Band,ÃÂ Humboldt Brass Festival, and the International Tuba-Euphonium Association.
