-Bobby Lee Trammell achieved immortality status in 1957 with Shirley Lee!
-This rockabilly classic and a multitude of exquisite rockers can be found on the Rocks CD from Bear Family Records® dedicated to him.
-Music journalist and Arkansas music expert Alex Petrauskas compiled this album and wrote the detailed liner notes.
Bobby Lee Trammell is known for his eccentric stage appearances, which made him popular. His music was no less bizarre than his show. Bear Family rightfully dedicates an album in its 'Rocks' series to the 'Wild Man from Arkansas', featuring Trammell's most rocking recordings. From rockabilly classics like Shirley Lee, You Mostest Girl and Woe Is Me to his signature song Arkansas Twist and forgotten treasures like Mayonnaise Man, the CD collects Bobby Lee Trammell's iconic range of rock 'n' roll songs.
Like many of his contemporaries, Bobby Lee Trammell was on the verge of becoming one of the genre's greats in 1957. With Shirley Lee, his debut single, an all-time rockabilly classic was released. Unfortunately, he was never able to duplicate this success.
After Shirley Lee, Bobby Lee Trammell developed from a celebrated West Coast newcomer to the 'enfant terrible' of rock 'n' roll. His stage show was considered too sensational, too eccentric, 'ten times more vulgar than Elvis' (as Tillman Franks said).
At a time when shallow pop melodies were being sung by the 'Bobbies' and when the Beatles were storming the charts, Bobby Lee Trammell remained true to the die-hard rock 'n' roll for a long time. In the early seventies, he devoted himself to country music, among other things, which even brought him a chart hit with Love Isn't Love.
He was largely denied commercial success, but Bobby Lee Trammell remains an icon of the global rockabilly scene. He was a role model for many musicians in Arkansas in the early sixties, as evidenced by the numerous cover versions. Clear the stage for the legendary energy of the 'Wild Man from Arkansas'!
