Chansons, movie soundtracks, cover versions, jazz, and bossa novas by Jobim, Bonf truly world-class entertainer, Caterina Valente is also one of the great voices of 20th century popular music. In the U. S. A. she appeared on television with Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Perry Como, and Dean Martin. She came by her affinity for Italian songs naturally: she was born in Paris to Italian parents.
Between 1959 and 1966 'La Grande Caterina' has recorded no less than 115 songs in her native language. This complete 4-CD edition contains all of those recordings, and... incredibly... more than 80 of them are previously unavailable on CD. A true bonanza for all Valente fans! - Since her first Italian hit in 1959, she charted 28 incredible hits, including Personalit compositions (from the San Remo Festival, and elsewhere), Italian versions of great international pop hits, as well as evergreens (Italian versions of songs by Cole Porter, Hoagy Carmichael, and Victor Young, and others ... A Fine Romance, When I Fall In Love, Get Out Of Town, Stardust, Blue Moon, I'm In The Mood For Love). There's also music from successful international movies like 'Orfeu Negro', 'Die Regenschirme von Cherbourg', and 'Der Besessene'. - Further highlights include Italian versions of Bossa Nova hits from Antonio Carlos Jobim und Luiz Bonf classics, Caterina Valente helped to bring this Brazilian art form to the world. As a special highlight ... and for the first time on CD ... this set contains the Italian version of Caterina Valente's complete Bossa Nova album, widely regarded as a classic. It was recorded in 1963 with Luiz Bonf Valente en France', this CD set represents another milestone in Caterina Valente's epic career. It will be released to mark her 80th birthday in January 2011!
