Wally Whyton's career spread over 40 years and established him both in Britain and internationally. In more recent years he was respected as the voice of Country Music on British radio (BBC Radio 2), though he made his entrance into the music business as the founder and lead singer of The Vipers Skiffle Group in the 1950s, before moving on to become one of the leading members of the British Folk movement. It was in the latter role, that he cut this album of Woody Guthrie children's songs (several of them being as familiar as Woody's famed 'Dustbowl' songs) - a set of recordings that Whyton not only regarded as among his favourites but also among his best! Similar enthusiasm for the recordings also came from Woody Guthrie's daughter Nora, and one can hardly ask for a better recommendation than that!
Common to both the artist and the songwriter, the songs' appreciation transcend both musical and audience barriers, and the 17 songs include Put Your Fingers In The Air, Race You Down The Mountain, Goodnight Little Arlo, How Di Do, and Ridin' My Car. These recordings are a lasting tribute to Wally Whyton, who died on January 23, 1997.
