Parsons, Kansas native Wilbur Dorsey 'Buck' Clayton (1911- 1991) is best known for his work with the Count Basie Orchestra and Billie Holiday but it's his contributions as a recording artist, sideman, arranger, bandleader, soloist and educator that saw the master trumpeter move effortlessly from swing, to be-bop and mainstream to modern jazz over a sixty-year career. In that time he worked with greats: Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, Hot Lips Page, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Coleman Hawkins, Harry James, Earl Hines, Eddie Condon and Buddy Tate.
