EverSound proudly presents The James Asher Anthology, a celebration of a remarkable career that has seen worldwide CD sales of over one million.
Asher came from a musical family and began learning violin at age 7.
Encouraged by his father, he was taught to improvise on keyboards, and fascinated by the technicalities of the recording process, he trained as a sound engineer.
This led to his developing an original production style and sound.
Writing first for music libraries, he made useful discoveries as to how music is used to support and enhance visuals. These would help him to frame imaginative musical ideas with how they could be best expressed, and with production techniques to enhance them.
One such idea was The Great Wheel - his first album, Then drawn to the field of world music, Asher became intrigued by the idea of combining a wide range of world music flavors into an amalgam he called Globalarium.
Caribbean, Brasilian, Arabian, and Native American influences blended seamlessly.
Traveling to India was a strong source of inspiration. Having been moved by the colorful palaces in Rajasthan, Asher sought to capture some of the romance he felt. Gathering 22 Indian musicians residing in London, he distilled Tigers of the Raj, for which he later received the accolade Crosspulse Bronze Award for music fusion.
It also led to collaborations with master Indian drummer virtuoso Sivamani in Drums on Fire, vocalist extraordinaireMahesh Vinayakram - in Bravado Masala, and multi-percussion wizard Sandeep Raval in Drum Travel.
As a drummer, Asher played drums on Pete Townshend`s Empty Glass album, and his music has been sampled by the Chemical Brothers, U.N.K.L.E, and Tylor the Creator.
The range of Asher`s music is extensive, from upbeat tribal, and exotic, to tender, gentle, and meditative - a rich tapestry to be enjoyed.
