Description
This is one of the early Musicals of the legendary Broadway team, John Kander and Fred Ebb
At the end of the 20th Century, two of the biggest hits on Broadway and around the world, CHICAGO and CABARET are by Kander and Ebb. Nearly 40 years ago in 1965, they wrote their first musical, FLORA THE RED MENACE starring a very young Liza Minnelli. As with all Kander and Ebb shows, the scores never fail to premiere several hit tunes and standards. Although the original production did not last long on Broadway, three standards came out of the score; A QUIET THING, SING HAPPY and DEAR LOVE. In 1987, a sensational new version of the musical premiered at The Vineyard Theatre to great acclaim and this time, resounding success. Completely reworked to suit a smaller theatre with four new songs, THE KID HERSELF, KEEPIN' IT HOT, WHERE DID EVERYBODY GO and THE JOKE, the score retained the three standards. As with the original, the cast for the revival comprised of young Broadway stars one of whom Veanne Cox, who played Flora, is now making movies. For the recording, John Kander played the piano. The JAY Kander and Ebb collection includes both the Original Broadway Cast (CDJAY 1328) and Original London Cast (CDJAY 1265) recordings of THE RINK, the first and only complete recording of CABARET (CDJAY2 1311) and soon to be released on JAY, the Original London Cast of 70, GIRLS, 70.
