Description
'...First rate...blues themes of hard times and romantic misadventures, but avoids cliche...' Living Blues
The third JSP release for Georgia-born Johnnie Marshall. Here he successfully melds blues with the religious fervor he has always exuded. All his southern blues, rock and soul influences are on display - amplified by guest mentors Eddie Kirkland, Johnny Rawls, and Sonny Rhodes. .
It's Johnnie's show, though - he delivers the lead vocals, shares the lead guitar work and provides some rhythm axe. The Nutmeg Horns - saxmen Bruce and Robert Feiner and trumpeter Jamie Finegan provide assured brass support. Everything here is memorable, but the haunting opener, 98â In The Bank with Marshall singing and Allen on guitar must represent a high point in the blues of the early 21st century.
