If you love Jazz and Latin music, you are in for a treat! Learn to love the sound of Steve Khan's guitar.
Steve Khan is one of jazz's most underrated and distinctive guitarists. His unique chord voicings, intriguing melodic sense and subtle use of effects have illuminated work by The Brecker Brothers, Steely Dan, Billy Cobham and Joe Zawinul. His new collection 'Backlog', the third in a Latin Jazz triptych following 'Parting Shot' (2011) and 'Subtext' (2014), continues to plunder the songbooks of his favorite composers. Steve Khan puts together a clever concept on this most recent album with Ruben Rodriguez/b, Mark Walker/dr, Marc Quinnones/perc, Bobby Allende/perc and guests including Randy Brecker/tp and Bob Mintzer/ts. Most of the tunes are either arranged by Rob Mounsey or include his keyboard work, and what the team has done is take Post Bop and Bop pieces like Ornette Coleman's 'Invisible,' Andrew Hill's 'Catta' and Greg Osby's 'Concepticus In C' and give them an infectious Latin and salsa lilt.
