Great live recording from Sept. 19, 1973 from the „Unserer-Lieben-Frauen' - Church in Bremen, recorded by Radio Bremen of the Irish Folk duo
TÃr na nÃg are an Irish folk duo formed in Dublin in 1969 by Leo O'Kelly and Sonny Condell. They are often considered one of the first progressive folk bands and are often compared to other artists such as Nick Drake or groups like Pentangle. Their music consists mainly of original compositions based on strong Celtic roots, typically featuring intricate acoustic guitar playing and close harmony vocals.
From 1971 to 1973, TÃr na nÃg recorded three studio albums, that were highly acclaimed by journalists. No recording of live performances was officially released until 2000 with the release of 'Hibernian'. A year later, a compilation of some of their live tracks recorded for John Peel's radio show between 1972 and 1973 was released. In 2015, a new studio album by the duo finally followed after more than 40 years.
On September 19, 1973, O'Kelly and Condell stopped by the 'Kirche Unserer Lieben Frauen' in Bremen to perform a fantastic live concert, which was recorded by Radio Bremen at the time and can be heard lovingly reissued here on CD.
Leo O'Kelly looks back: 'I have fond memories of that evening when we performed together with John David Gladwin of Amazing Blondel, who entertained us with his medieval-style songs and his sometimes bawdy stories.'
A must for all Irish folk fans!
