Description
Dorothy Lamour's first major film role had her clad in a sarong in âThe Jungle Princessâ, a film that propelled her to instant stardom and she became Hollywood's queen of South Sea island films. Fortunately she could also act, the public liked her and she sustained her long Hollywood career in over 60 films, co-starring with Bing Crosby and Bob Hope in six very successful âRoad Toâ¦â films.
However, a little known fact is that Dorothy Lamour had been a band singer before venturing into films, and her singing ability has often been overlooked. Her film career took precedence and she recorded sporadically but in 1947 she recorded 8 sides for the independent Coast label. We have found and are proud to feature these rare sides plus some other previously unavailable on CD Hawaiian-themed tracks on this CD. The title track, âQueen of the Hollywood Islandsâ, where the star turns the laugh on herself was specially composed for her by Frank Loesser for her show-stopping sequence in the film âA Miracle Can Happenâ.
There are several Dorothy Lamour CDS out there - many of them have the same tracks recycled over and over. This one has many that don't appear elsewhere, including her song 'Beside You' from MY FAVORITE BRUNETTE, a duet of a song with Bob Hope called 'My Favorite Brunette' that was issued to promote the movie, and songs from her underrated musical melodrama LULU BELLE like the title song and 'I Can't Tell Why I Love You'.
