Description
Vivian Blaine was already an accomplished band vocalist when 20th Century Fox signed her and in 1944 she co-starred with Don Ameche and Carmen Miranda in the Technicolor musical âGreenwich Villageâ. An adaptation of Cole Porter's âSomething For the Boysâ was followed by the Rodgers and Hammerstein hit âState Fairâ, in which she introduced the songs âThat's For Meâ and âIsn't It Kinda Fun'â
She was then offered the role of Miss Adelaide in Broadway's âGuys and Dollsâ which she performed for over 1000 performances, repeating the role in London and then in the movie version. In the mid-1950s Blaine recorded two companion albums -âSongs From the Ziegfeld Folliesâ and âSongs From the Great White Wayâ. The 24 show tunes ranged from classic novelties like âYou'd Be Surprised,â and âHello, Frisco!â to such torchy numbers as âMy Man,â and âBut Not For Meâ, providing her with ample opportunity to display her versatility. These 24 tracks are now on this CD with 3 additional bonus tracks for new generations to discover and enjoy.
