Grandchildren of Compay Segundo Buena Vista Social Club
Ecos de Siboney
the grandchildren of Compay Segundo
Máximo Francisco Repilado Muños is better known as Compay Segundo. He was the most famous musician of the Buena Vista Social Club and the composer of the world-famous song 'Chan Chan'.
His grandchildren Ernesto, Leonardo and Alejandro Repilado have been honoring their grandfather, who could even be seen on the big stages of the world at the age of 94, musically for almost 20 years.
From Compay they learned how to play the traditional son authentically. It was also he who wanted his 'poetry set to music' - as he liked to call his compositions - continue to be interpreted in his sense. This is how the group 'Ecos de Siboney' came into being, which quickly became popular in Cuba and has already toured Mexico and Ecuador.
For their albums 'Ecos de Siboney' received the 'Premio Lucas' twice in Cuba and were nominated for the 'Premio Cubadisco', the Cuban Grammy, in the category 'Musica tradicional'. Her video 'Me dirás que sabroso' received an award in the Musica tradicional category.
The group lets the traditional Son Cubano live on and so they have also written successful hits with their own compositions such as 'Tengo un Son', which are interpreted and played worldwide. That was exactly her grandfather's idea from the start - Compay Segundo! 'Somos los herederos' (... we are your heirs)
Live they play many compositions by Compay Segundo such as Chan Chan, Las Flores de la Vida, El Camisón de Pepa, Orgullecida, Macusa, La Guantanamera. But of course also songs from their own pen.
