Description
New free jazz quartet from Vienna consisting of Mark Holub, Werner Zangerle, Villy Paraskevopoulos and Vicious Cajado
Extempore, formerly known as Ad Libitum Quartet, is a band located in Vienna, Austria. It consists of Mark Holub on drums, Villy Paraskevopoulos on piano, Vinicius Cajado on double bass and Werner Zangerle on saxophone. The band was formed by Paraskevopoulos for a festival in Graz in 2021 as a trio, after which they became a quartet with varying bass players. Since this year Cajado is the definitve fourth member of the group, himself being an outstanding bass player that is active with many different formations. The group's style can be described as somewhere between European improvised music and American free jazz. Werner Zangerle is a musician and pedagogue living in Vienna. He plays in many different groups, ranging from Contemporary Jazz via New Music to Big Band sound. Villy Paraskevopoulos was born in Athens, Greece, but has been located in Austria for over twenty years now. His interest lies in Jazz in general, from improv to contemporary classical music. Vinicius Cajado is a Brazilian double bass player. His first solo album 'Monu' was nominated as Best of the year 2021 by The New York City Jazz Record. Vinicius's playing, technique, tone and sound is a mixture between lots of different styles, and all of this extended by the immense color palette that is improvised music. The Bassist uses traditional and unconventional techniques, to make the tradition new, and also cut any borders that have been created in modern music in order to make the stage an organic space of interaction. Mark Holub is an American drummer located in Vienna who is best known as bandleader for british jazz group Led Bib. He also fronts Anthropods (second album available on Klanggalerie). With Led Bib, he was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize 2009 and he was also a winner of the Peter Whittingham Jazz Award 2005. After seeing the quartet play a show at Porgy & bess club, Vienna, we signed them on the spot and are now proud to present their debut album on klanggalerie.
