A favorite with the American Folk Blues Festivals of the 1960s, Big Joe Williams was a true original, with a recording career spanning six decades, from the 1930s to the 1980s. This compilation covers the years 1945 to 1951. Despite the musical changes taking place, Big Joe stayed the same, dispensing the rough blues of the Mississippi hill country. His most famous composition, 'Baby Please Don't Go', an unlikely hit for Them and Van Morrison in the 1960s, is included, along with a number of tracks on which he is accompanied by the harmonica of Sonny Boy Williamson. Other tracks worth investigation include 'King Biscuit Stomp', 'Stack Of Dollars' and 'Mama Don't Allow Me'.
