It consists of the only existing recordings of Charles Mingus, Roy Eldridge and Eric Dolphy playing together. Also present on the session are trombonist Jimmy Knepper, pianist Tommy Flanagan, and drummer Jo Jones. While Mingus and Eldridge only recorded together on a few other occasions, the bassist and Dolphy had a longstanding partnership, which was sadly interrupted forever due to the saxophonist's unexpected death in 1964.
