Welcome back to the sixties when the girls, either singly or in groups, sang of unrequited love. Seems like their boys, as the term man is seldom used, were either in the Army (Soldier Boy), away at school (Wonderful Summer) or in another girl's arms (It's My Party). Speaking of that other girl, everybody in those days knew You Can't Trust A Friend with your lover or you'd be a Foolish Little Girl. Like a textbook on romance, or a lonely hearts column set to music, the themes expressed in these love anthems remind us of the pain and the trail of broken hearts many of us experienced during our high school or college years. To accurately present this musical picture of our youth, we delve into a collection of songs originally issued by Spar Records of Nashville during those musically potent years of the early to mid 1960s. All recaptured in the style which you remember hearing on the radio. Mastered from the best sources available, most of these songs make their stereo digital debut. The Spar Record Company was an independent label, founded in Nashville, Tennessee the early 1960s by veteran record men William Beasley and Alan Bubis. The company specialized in 'sound-a-like' records, but released original material as well. Spar's productions utilized the finest musicians and background singers available in one of the world's most famous recording capitals. Many Spar recordings feature the same musicians and background singers as the original hit versions. Many of the artists featured in this collection were under contract to other record labels at the time, and their session work for Spar had to be issued under assumed names. For example, Nashville native Connie Landers recorded under a variety of names while giving her spin to songs written for Connie Francis , Brenda Lee (Losing You, My Whole World Is Falling Down) and Lesley Gore (It's My Party, Judy's Turn To Cry), among others.
