Best Of 1952-55 brings together the very best of their landmark output

Formed in Harlem in 1952 by seasoned veterans of the gospel circuit, The Du Droppers brought a mature, blues-drenched authority to the early days of vocal group rhythm and blues. Led by the legendary Caleb 'J.C.' Ginyard (formerly of The Jubalaires and The Dixieaires) and anchored by deep bass vocalists like Bob Kornegay, their street-smart humour, driving jump-rhythm syncopation, and soulful harmonies set them miles apart from the teenage street-corner groups of the era. Bridging the gap between traditional African American sacred singing and the burgeoning secular youth culture, they stood at the vital historic crossroads where gospel, jump blues, and urban vocal harmony collided to pioneer rock and roll. Talk That Talk! Best Of 1952-55 brings together the very best of their landmark output across Red Robin, RCA Victor, and Groove Records. Featuring major R&B chart hits like 'I Wanna Know' and 'I Found Out,' alongside iconic rhythm numbers like 'Can't Do Sixty No More,' 'Dead Broke,' and the explosive title track, this collection captures the group at their absolute performance peak. Featuring songwriting from legends like Leiber & Stoller and Rose Marie McCoy, these recordings demonstrate why The Du Droppers left an indelible imprint on rock and roll history--directly influencing artists from Elvis Presley to The Coasters. Talk That Talk! stands as the definitive document of an extraordinary vocal ensemble who helped build the foundation of modern rhythm and blues.

Track Listing

Can't Do Sixty No More

Chain Me Baby

Come On And Love Me Baby

Go Back

I Wanna Know

Laughing Blues

Get Lost

I Found Out (What You Do When You Go Round There)

Bambalam

10 Past Midnight

Don't Pass Me By

Speed King

Dead Broke

How Much Longer

Honey Bunch

Let Nature Take It's Course

Boot 'Em Up

Talk That Talk!

Additional Details

Label: Acrobat

Genre: Gospel

Language: English

Run Time: 37 mins

Region: 0

Release Date: 12/11/26

UPC: 824046172923
