The late great Duke Ellington was born Edward Kennedy Ellington in Washington DC on 29th April 1899 and during a long and impressive career was responsible for composing such great and enduring jazz standards as 'It Don't Mean A Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)', 'Sophisticated Lady', 'In A Sentimental Mood', 'Mood Indigo', 'I Got It Bad And That Ain't Good', 'I'm Beginning To See The Light', 'Satin Doll', and 'Don't Get Around Much Anymore'.
