The Wurlitzer organ, a thrilling combination of pipes and valves, isn't called mighty for nothing. From the 1920s onwards this versatile instrument was the means for one player to achieve a bigger sound than anyone had previously thought. From popular tunes of the day to light classics it's rich, dense tones gave it a distinctively soothing stamp.

In Britain the premier exponent was Reginald Dixon, a Yorkshireman from Sheffield, whose sure touch landed him a position at the entertainment complex at the top of Blackpool's famous rococo Tower. He reigned there from 1930 onwards, missing out the years of the second World War to serve in the RAF as a squadron leader. Through him and many other gifted players the Wurlitzer became a familiar feature of seaside Britain.

No dance, whether during the day or evening, was complete without the sound of the mighty Wurlitzer and it was also the perfect accompaniment for sing-songs, events usually held on Sunday mornings.
