Description
Waylon Jennings has become one of country music's brightest stars.
Waylon Jennings has become one of country music's brightest stars thanks to a career that has successfully combined songwriting, hit records and even film acting over a period of almost 40 years. His distinctive music has been an inspiration to his fellow performers as well as thousands of fans around the world.
Waylon Jennings was one of the musicians accompanying Buddy Holly on his final ill-fated tour which had started in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in January 1959. On 2nd February the tour reached Clear Water, Iowa, and because bad weather was making road travel difficult, Holly decided to travel to the next town on the tour schedule via a light plane. The story goes that Jennings gave up his own seat on the flight, in favour of The Big Bopper who was also on the tour. The plane crashed soon after take-off and snuffed out the lives of all those on board including Holly, The Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens. Many years later Jennings paid tribute to Holly with the song 'Old Friend', as well as naming his own son Buddy after the rock and roll star.
