This disc is a musical companion to Scarlatti`s journey from Naples via Lisbon to the annual tour made by the Spanish court. It is not Chronological, even according to the order suggested by Kirkpatrick. Instead it provides some perspectives on the influences that moulded the music and life of Scarlatti as a bystander and witness to the colourful events of his era. The small-scale works composed for private consumption have absorbed every aspect of the passionate, intense, melancholy, cruel, beautiful and harsh world in witch he lived in. – Elina Mustonen
