Eskelinen, Ismo's guitar playing has riveted the attention of audiences and critics ever since 1989, when he won the international Scandinavian Guitar Festival as the youngest contestant. Since then his career has been furthered by several international awards: Gargnano (Italy, 1997), Printemps de la Guitare in Brussels (1992), Frosinone (Italy, 1992) the Philippos Nakas Competition in Athens (1997), Tychy (Poland, 1990) and most recently the Leo Brouwer award (1998), this last awarded by the legendaly guitar composer himself. In 1999 Eskelinen was chosen Young Artist of the Year at the Mikkeli Music Festival directed by Valeri Gergijev.Eskelinen performs extensively in Europe, both as a soloist and a chamber musician, his performances including many major music festivals. He has performed on radio and television in many countries and records on a regular basis for FinnishBroadcasting Company. His wide repertoire spans music from the 16th century to the most modern compositions. In addition to giving concerts, Eskelinen teaches guitar at the Turku Conselvatoire.
