Originally from Detroit, the Midwest melting pot of musical forms, celebrated Guitarist RANDY JOHNSTON has played and toured with a host of soul/jazz luminaries, including Etta Jones, Joey DeFrancesco, Houston Person, Lou Donaldson, Johnny Griffin and Irene Reid. After recording sixteen albums as a leader, “PEOPLE MUSIC” is the culmination of his efforts to make music for all listeners to appreciate. His amalgam of Jazz, Soul, Blues, Rock, Funk and Pop, has indeed created his own style of “people music.” Joined by legendary guitarist Pat Martino's rhythm tandem of organist Pat Bianchi and drummer Carmen Intorre, Randy's ample chops and taste are aptly illustrated throughout. From his fusion-esque “Garden State,” rollicking blues “Nostalgia For What Never Was,” swinger “Passing By,” Santana-inspired “Chavez,” to the soulful “Everyday Heroes,” his guitar playing dazzles. Randy makes his vocal debut on Mose Allison's blues “Parchman Farm” and his own rocker “Trouble.” Bianchi's B-3 accompanies and solos with aplomb, while Intorre's beats and grooves shine, particularly on the funky odd-meter of Eddie Harris' “Cold Duck Time.” The trio has created congenial, approachable art for all people. Randy's mission accomplished.
