Eric started writing songs on arrival in Australia and one of his first was the hugely popular âAnd The Band Played Waltzing Matildaâ, which to date has been recorded by over 100 artists, ranging from Joan Baez to The Pogues. He followed this up with âNo Manâs Landâ, or âThe Green Fields of Franceâ as it is often referred to, which was recorded by The Furey Brothers and spent an incredible 26 weeks in the Irish Charts, including 10 weeks at No. 1. Altogether nearly 50 of Ericâs songs have been recorded by other artists including Mary Black, Donovan, Billy Bragg and The Dubliners.
