In November 1969, the intentional crashing of the lunar module (LM), with a force of one ton, created shockwaves that built up to a peak in eight minutes and continued for almost an hour, as recorded by the seismometer left behind.
When at 8:09 pm EST, on April 14th, 1970 Apollo 13 turned for home, the fifteen ton third stage of the Saturn V lunch Vehicle crashed to the moon with a force of eleven and a half tons of TNT, causing it to ring like a bell, as recorded by the very seismometer the astronauts of Apollo 12 left behind, eighty-five miles east-southeast of the impact. The reverberations lasted three hours and twenty minutes, to a depth of twenty-five miles, demonstrating the moon possibility had virtually no core, and wobbling the moon in such a way as if it had an extremely large hydraulic damper strut in its interior.
The moon is also moving away from us at a rate of 3.78cm, or 1.48 inches a year.
