Description
Texan Eddie 'Blue' Lester, is known in the US as a vocalist and saxophonist extraordinaire. Before he was 20, he was playing on the chitlin circuit in the southern states with The Jimmy Church Revue and for a while played with Jimi Hendrix. Over the years he's played all over the US from large stages to small bars, alongside such blues artists as Magic Slim, Carl Weathersby, Tab Benoit, Big Jack Johnson, Deanna Bogart and Tommy Castro. Now a resident of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Eddie ran jam nights at the local Funky Basement which attracted many well known touring musicians. He liked it so much he wrote a song about it.This superb album was originally intended as something for Eddie and the band to sell at gigs and promote their tours. But this old-fashioned 'live in the studio' set turned out to be something that is way, way better than that - it's as good and probably better than most contemporary blues recordings. That's what happens when great musicians who have fresh and creative ideas get together with a studio and engineer totally sympathetic to real music values. When I heard it I knew I had to release it! JOHN STEDMAN
