Description
A Compelling Testament
When Lucky was barely five, father and son team collaborated on their first recording, the Willie Dixon-produced single 1, 2, 3, 4 b/w Good Old Candy. It was a hit and won the youngster national fame. Lucky then spent dues-paying years, first learning music, then in the bands of such as Little Milton, before finding new fame as a triple threat artist (singer/guitarist/organist). Although James and Lucky have recorded together sporadically during the last quarter century, 'If You Can't Fix It' is their most compelling testament to the power and passion of the blues. Here the vocals are left to the leather-lunged James, while Lucky contributes soulful guitar and organ. And for fans of the Hammond B-3, Lucky's solos are pure joy. Then there's his guitar playing - his visceral string bending is incomparable, certainly among his best playing ever. And James' forceful vocals hit hard. His dark, gravelly vocals, justifiably cynical and worldly-wise, are a commanding presence. His honest lyrics about relationships and their vicissitudes are captivating - unfettered by politically correct niceties. Some of the deepest blues on the current scene.
