Description
94 songs showcase numerous jump tunes from the jukebox boogie man! The 3 CD set includes 30 unreleased acetate recordings.
Ramblin' Jimmie Dolan's countrified punchy and peppy vocal delivery mesmerised America's C&W fans between 1949 and 1955, when he quit the music business. The ninety-four songs featured on the Atomicat Records (ACCD158) anthology entitled Stingy showcase numerous jump tunes from the jukebox boogie man! Sit back and relax as the anthology transports you back to the vibrant years of C&W music and the icing on the cake are the thirty unreleased acetate recordings.
Dolan in his time was a well-known artist who did not set the C&W charts on fire despite the quality of his recording for the; Modern, 4 Star, Colonial and Capitol Records labels, and the latter label utilised the cream of the Hollywood session men; Merle Travis, Charlie Aldridge, Jimmy Bryant, Billy Strange, Speedy West, Red Murrell, Billy Liebert, and others, whose involvement can be found in the discography. The albums are in chronological order and from this programming you can hear Dolan's musical development. It must be emphasised that some recordings were issued on both 78 RPM and 45 RPM, and the re-issues on 45 RPM often had a different pairing.
Each album ends with a selection of acetate recordings which due to modern technology have been lovingly restored. Christian Zwarg transferred the acetates. Only a handful of the acetates have percussion embellishment, and the majority are vocal and rhythm guitar demos recorded for future session ideas or for other artists to consider recording. They were recorded in the early 1950s and our sound engineer Heiko Schulz at the Black Shack Recordings invested hours on the project removing as many imperfections as possible, and you will hear the 'lost-gem' recordings in the best possible sound.
The story behind the acetates is brief and significant. Rockstar Records' Tony Barrett was in Palm Springs, California searching for unreleased Eddie Cochran recordings. While looking he found several hundred acetates which are being used for the series.
