Most rock music fans first heard the mighty testifying of The Swan Silvertones on the film soundtrack to 'The Big Easy' which contained their stone classic 'Saviour, Pass Me Not'. In 1938 the group, under the leadership of virtuosic vocalist Claude Jeter were formed by Jeter in his spare time when not mining coal in West Virginia. They quickly gained an audience, naming themselves 'The Silvertone Singers.' They later added the Swan moniker as a nod to their sponsor, Swan Bakeries. This excellent collection on RockBeat contains five of their best Specialty and twenty-one of their best Vee Jay recordings
