Description
The film 'As Long As They're Happy', starring the effervescent Jeannie Carson was one of the rare musicals produced in Britain in the 1950s. With an original score by American composer Sam Coslow, it was adapted from a popular stage comedy that satirised the 'crying crooner' phenomenon of the period. It co-starred Jack Buchanan, Diana Dors and American crooner Jerry Wayne. Musical highlights include Carson's show-stopping number 'My Crazy Little Mixed-Up Heart'; the luscious Diana Dors cavorting with Jack Buchanan in the 'Hokey-Pokey Polka', and Buchanan's winning performance of 'I Don't Know Whether To Laugh Or To Cry Over You'.
Jeannie Carson's next film was the delightful musical comedy 'An Alligator Named Daisy', which co-starred Donald Sinden and Diana Dors. Songs from this film include the finger-snapping 'The Crocodile Crawl' performed by Ken Mackintosh and his Band and Carson's powerhouse performance of 'In Love For The Very First Time'.
Jeannie went to America to star in the NBC television musical 'Heidi' that had been adapted for the small screen by Neil Simon. Songs included 'Greener Pastures' performed by Carson, and 'I'm In Love With Me' performed by co-star Robert Clary. These rare gems are to be found on this CD along with a selection of Jeannie Carson's commercial recordings from the 1950s.
