Description
This new series of albums in effect follows on from the highly regarded Chronological Bing Crosby CDs issued by Jonzo Records. Producer John McNicholas has now retired from the production side and we have taken on the task of issuing Bing's commercial recordings in chronological order. We start the CD from September 1950 when Bing was in the midst of several recording sessions and was also taping his weekly radio show for Chesterfield in advance for its proposed return to the air waves on October 4.
1950 had been a reasonably successful year for Bing. He had eleven records that were chart hits and came third in the USA movie box office stars poll. 1951 marked the 20th anniversary of his debut as a solo act and the media highlighted this during January. CBS broadcast 'A Salute To Bing Crosby' on January 9 and the next day Bing was honoured with a prestigious lunch in Paramount Studios at which various disc jockeys and radio editors presented him with a plaque from ASCAP. The 25 tracks here include songs from the Great American Songbook and Broadway shows such as 'Autumn Leaves', 'I've Never Been In Love Before', 'Silver Bells', 'Marrying For Love', 'May The Good Lord Bless And Keep You', 'The Girl Friend', 'St. Patrick's Day Parade' and Quizas, Quizas, Quizas.'
The booklet contains comprehensive recording details and liner notes are from the pen of Malcolm Macfarlane, Editor of the International Club Crosby magazine.
