A/B Trio brings together three of western Canada's most in-demand jazz performing and recording musicians - Thom Bennett (drums), Dan Davis (saxophone), and Josh McHan (double bass). This ensemble is inspired by the open sounding, chordless groups of Sonny Rollins and Joshua Redman, as well as the work of Chris Potter and Ari Hoenig. Their material ranges from inventive re-interpretations of standards to modern, original repertoire and high-energy groove-based music. Itââ¬â¢s fresh, accessible and compelling music for all jazz lovers.
A/B Trio's new release 'Out West,' brings JUNO Award winner Mike Murley into the fold. One of Eastern Canada's most formidable improvisers, Mike has spurred the group forward into new musical territory. Compositionally, he interweaves two-part melodies, lush harmonies, and driving rhythms. In the group's performances, this means matching the ingenuity and intensity of Mike's improvising, both in a co-operative and in a musically competitive sense. Mike is both a natural fit and catalyst for the Trio's vision.
