Lyrical solo piano music in the Nordic spirit. Some standards and some of his own compositions

Alf Häggkvist,
pianist and composer, hails from the north of Sweden. After completing his music studies, he started teaching among other places at music colleges in Piteå and Stockholm, Sweden. Improvised music has always been a strong interest for Alf and he grabbed the opportunities that opened up for him to develop this side of his playing both as a teacher and with other musicians. In 1992 he moved with his family to Stockholm and he has practiced as a freelance musician since 1999. Over the years, he has played With not only most of Sweden's famous musicians
but he has also collaborated with several foreign artists. Due to his ability as a composer and songwriter, he has frequently been engaged as an accompanist and cooperates with many established singers.
He has had some productive years lately and released several CDs under his own name, both with his own trio Alf Häggkvist Trio (Fog - LOS 133-2 on Losen Records 2014) and as a solo artist.You can find his name on many others CD recordings, participated in several radio and television programs and played solo piano
and trio concerts at jazz clubs not only in Sweden but also in several European countries.
Alf admits he has been influenced by pianists like Keith Jarreth, Bill Evans, John Taylor and trumpeter Kenny Wheeler, however his main source of inspiration comes from the nature and life itself, the seasons and the vicissitudes
of life. Lyrical music in the Nordic spirit is what lays close to his heart and what feels easy to compose and play, however he finds himself often in the borderland between jazz and classical music and not without a touch of free overtones at times. Wherever he is in the musical landscape he has the experience and the ability to put his personal stamp on the music
