For the extensive 'Zik Zak' project, 18 different African artists from nine countries, including BANTU, JOYCE OLONG and ART MELODY, worked together. Founded in Cologne in 2001 by TOM STRAUCH and INGO MÖLL, ANCIENT ASTRONAUTS and the artist-run label Switchstance Recordings quickly became one of the scene names for DJing, events and selected cross-genre releases. After several singles and remixes, the ANCIENT ASTRONAUTS debut album 'We Are to Answer' was released and immediately received great, worldwide approval and positive reviews. After four further equally successful albums, collaborations with various artists such as THIEVERY CORPORATION, THE PHARCYDE, THE JUNGLE BROTHERS, DJ BRACE, SHAWN LEE, AKUA NARU, VIEUX FARKA TOURE or RAASHAN AHMAD, worldwide sold-out performances in Miami, San Francisco, New York, Washington, Nairobi, Kampala, Manchester, Vienna, Paris, Barcelona or Budapest and participation in various advertising, film, series or video game soundtracks such as CSI Miami, Damages - in the power grid, NBA 2K, Davidoff, O' Neill, Method TV More than three years after the acclaimed studio album Broken Puppets, the ANCIENT ASTRONAUTS are back with rapper AZEEM with the all-new concept album Zik Zak. As a foretaste, the sensational 'Kampala Fire EP' was released at the end of last year and shows directly that a completely new and diverse path is being taken via reggae, dub, world-Africa and hip-hop, both in terms of content and style.
