Description
The album 'Black Bazar' has just one watchword: back to the roots of rumba! The challenge for the musicians, in this album, was to take rumba back to its roots and reject the machines and programming that have done so much to water down todayâs Congolese (and African) music. In other words, to revive a genre that was originally intended as dance music, but is also a delight to listen to. Modogo Abarambwa and Sam Tshintu, the two brains behind the project, are veterans of Koffi Olomideâs Quartier Latin and the Academia band (album 'Sanction' released in 1999).'Black Bazar' was initially a French novel by Alain Mabanckou (publisher Le Seuil, 2009). The book was written as the first part of a trilogy, which the author planned to continue by producing a music album (to be released on Lusafrica on 5 March 2012) and then a film, written by Alain Mabanckou, to be produced in the next months, for a release in 2013.
