Four examples of good, solid powerpop from Australia / RIYL: Matthew Sweet, the Posies
Stewart Tudor-Jackman spent his younger days leading the indiepop duo, the Kensingtons, in the mid-'90s and even revived the name some years back, releasing EPs on Dufflecoat, Anorak and Cloudberry. This new project of his, however, is miles away from the rather twee pop sound of the Kensingtons - instead, we have four slices of good, solid powerpop a la Matthew Sweet, the Posies and Fountains Of Wayne. Let's put it this way: if Not Lame Records were still around, this would've fit perfectly on their roster between Cherry Twister and Martin Luther Lennon. A great taste of what's to come!
