Description
An incredible live album from the center of New York, the Blue Note Jazz Club in the West Village.
The present recording is a live recording of the long-standing band 'Black Mud Sound' by pianist and composer Cornelius Claudio Kreusch from the Blue Note in New York City. The repertoire consists of compositions from the albums 'Black Mud Sound' ('What?', 'Way Out', 'Nubian Queen'), and 'Scoop' ('Faith', 'Feel!') and already announces the later African band phase of the pianist: 'Fo Doumbé'.
On vocals, the incomparable Cheryl 'Pepsii' Riley, a voice with the power of a Whitney Houston and the nonchalance of Erykah Badu. An improvisational phenomenon, the singer uses her voice like an instrument. The funky bass man Dave Jones always provides virtuously the deep foundation and reminds of the big ones of his instrument. And funky 'Drumette' Lady Camille Gainer burns the house down! No wonder Prince called her! The Steinway artist Cornelius Claudio Kreusch also plays Minimoog and Fender Rhodes on this recording and takes the funky virtuoso keys to heart. Sometimes one would think that Richard Tee was sitting on the keyboards or George Clinton would wait for his performance with the band behind the stage, and Macy Gray would also come over.
An incredible live album from the center of New York, the legendary Blue Note Jazz Club in the West Village. The music like the city, funky, jazzy, wild and yet with feeling. Time Out New York wrote about the gig: 'It's a wild ride!'
