Description
Third release by this European chamber trio again features their distinctive synthesis of jazz, folk/world, classical, minimalism and the avant-garde in a program of free improvisation and original compositions. Equilibrium is Sissel Vera Pettersen (Norway), voice, live electronics & soprano sax, Joachim Badenhorst (Belgium), clarinet & bass clarinet, and Mikkel Ploug (Denmark), electric & acoustic guitars. They create that is deeply sophisticated yet utterly transparent; its roots and feeling go back centuries, its holistic approach is of today. The vibe continually morphs between driving and ethereal, as acoustic instruments and Pettersen's pure, wordless vocals evolve into layered soundscapes. Gorgeous high-res recording mixed at Oslo's Rainbow Studio by legendary ECM engineer Jan Erik Kongshaug. Badenhorst is a member of the Han Bennink Trio and was named a rising star on clarinet in the 2013 DownBeat Critics Poll. Pettersen has worked with iconic figures in the jazz world such as Jon Balke and Marc Ducret, and Ploug tours his own groups featuring Mark Turner or Loren Stillman.
