Heavy Accoustic Music from Sweden and Estonia on CD on Nordic Notes!

Heavy Accoustic Music from Sweden and Estonia! Fränder are a young folk band that has set itself ambitious goals: On their second album 'Fränder II', the five around brothers Gabbi and Daniel Dluzewski deliberately want to leave behind all the 'do's and don'ts' of traditional folk music and create their own, mesmerizing sound world. 'This is not about tradition, this is about us, about today,' emphasizes percussionist Gabbi Dluzewski. Picking up where scene legends such as Hedningarna, Garmarna and Hoven Droven left off, Fränder aim to add whole new facets to Scandinavian folk with influences from Led Zeppelin, Fairport Convention, Jethro Tull and even the Beatles. 'Even though the band plays exclusively on acoustic instruments: It rocks,' Gabbi sums things up.

Brothers Gabbi and Daniel Dluzewski (and until recently, their sister Natasja Dluzewska) grew up in the village of Håga, one of Scandinavia's Viking strongholds during the Bronze Age. The siblings played in the shadow of a 9th century fortress ruin and near the burial mound of the Viking king Björn. The Håga area near Uppsala was once Sweden's most productive gold-producing region before overexploitation and looting ended that era. A treasure of a different kind, however, has remained: the great richness of the Nordic musical tradition.

The band's influences include such diverse genres as rock, jazz and Western classical music , which they discovered in the record collection of their music-loving parents. Gabbi and Daniel Dluzewski played in their own rock band for years before forming Fränder. Gabbi holds a degree in traditional Swedish music from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Stockholm and is on track for a master's degree in traditional Nordic music at the prestigious Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. His wife, Fränder flutist Säde Tatar, also studied in Stockholm and earned a degree in traditional Estonian music from the Viljandimaa Academy of Culture at the University of Tartu in her native Estonia. Daniel studied jazz bass at Örebro University.
