A budget priced sampler of tracks by Kiwi electron herders Pitch Black, showcasing some of the best tunes from their four studio albums and four subsequent remix albums.

The album opens with the languid sounds of the International Observer, albeit with a twisted centre when his son Horace injects some Aphex-isms into the mix. Rude Mechanicals features apocalyptical lyrics from Queenstown's Killer Puha, while Electric Earth Pts 1 and 2 are old school dancefloor classics. Friends Electric's remix of Freefall blends broken beats with psy styles, and Bird Soul is reminiscent of Paddy Free's production work for Salmonella Dub, snarling drum and bass encased in an ambient envelope.

The legendary Youth (Killing Joke, The Orb) adds trancefloor touches to Melt, while Ekto makes Reptile Room fit for any club. Going completely the other way, Kerretta melt Bird Soul down to a sonic extravaganza. The Gatherer reminds us of where the boys began, at The Gathering festival in 1997, awash with space and bass and sounding like nothing else at the time. Finally Deep Fried Dub wrestle Transient Transmissions into a suitably stoned sampler finale!
