Description

The Hungarian pianist Béla Szakcsi Lakatos, who has trained jazz musicians from across the Atlantic, has in recent years gone on to performing quartet concerts with only Americans. Among his regular or casual companions are figures like John Patitucci, Jack DeJohnette or formerly Frank Zappa. After a live at Müpa captured in 2011 where he was surrounded by Chris Potter and Terry Lyne Carrington, the BMC label invites us to a concert, recorded in the spring of 2014 with more traditional musicians. Here, Szakcsi is measured against a rhythmic base composed of drummer Rudy Royston and bassist Robert Hurst, remarkable of musicality on this revival of 'Blue in Green', a fetish standard of the pianist. At his side stays saxophonist Tim Ries, who this time changed stadiums packed with fans of the Rolling Stones to the warm atmosphere of the Concert Hall of the Budapest Music Center.
