Melody, harmony, and free rhythm predominate in the organ music of Hans-Friedrich Micheelsen, a pupil of Paul Hindemith. The music on this CD, performed by organist Ekkehard Richter and the Mendelssohn Ensemble Hamburg, draws on forms used by Bach, Buxtehude, and Pachelbel. Included is the impressive 'Organ Concerto, Op. 34', which reflects a style that grew out of Renaissance vocal polyphony.Â
