The Folk Poetry of the Brazilian Nordeste : two major genres are presented here: the «aboio», or cowman's song, a song used by cowmen to gather their herds. The «embolada» is a living tradition descending from the Portuguese, a vocal joust between two «repentistas» accompanying themselves on the tambourine and improvising with humour on set forms, singing about the daily life.
