Description

Just the Three of Us features a unique blend of muted trumpet and piano in a captivating live jazz album, timeless compositions by jazz legends.

Just the Three of Us features the melodic jazz stylings of Alan Chaubert, who masterfully plays both muted trumpet and piano simultaneously. Accompanied by bass and drums, Chaubert highlights the beauty of nine outstanding compositions by renowned artists such as Charlie Haden, Bill Evans, Thelonious Monk, and Norah Jones.

Chaubert's exceptional talent lies in his ability to perform lyrical trumpet melodies while maintaining rich harmonic support with his left hand on the piano. Recorded live with no overdubbing, Just the Three of Us showcases the synergy between Chaubert, bassist Belden Bullock, drummer Jon Di Fiore, and guest percussionist Luis Quintero on two tracks. Most selections are presented at relaxed tempos, allowing Chaubert's muted trumpet to shine alongside Bullock's concise and inventive bass solos.

The album opens with Charlie Haden's captivating 'Waltz For Ruth,' where Chaubert's trumpet evokes a hint of Chet Baker while retaining his unique musical identity. This is followed by his delicate interpretation of 'For All We Know,' the Norah Jones hit 'Don't Know Why,' and the emotionally resonant 'Turn Out The Stars,' featuring his poignant, sometimes free-flowing trumpet playing.

Chaubert's catchy rendition of 'Poinciana' showcases him solely on piano, accompanied by the rhythm section and Quintero's vibrant percussion. His heartfelt trumpet work is particularly notable on 'I Will Say Goodbye' (presented in two versions) and Bill Evans' atmospheric 'Peace Piece.' In contrast, the album includes a lively take on Thelonious Monk's 'Well You Needn't,' which features a playful exchange with drummer Di Fiore, as well as Monk's bluesy 'Misterioso.'

Born in Morges, Switzerland, Chaubert picked up the trumpet at age 12 & gained experience playing in a local brass band. By 17, he was a professional musician while simultaneously studying piano. He earned a degree from the Geneva Conservatory before moving to the US to attend the Berklee College of Music.
