Internationally recognized as one of the premier chamber music ensembles of our time, the American Brass Quintet is celebrated for peerless leadership in the brass world. In 2013 the quintet received Chamber Music America's highest honor, the Richard J. Bogomolny National Service Award for significant and lasting contributions to the field. Committed to the development of brass chamber music through education and outreach, the American Brass Quintet has served as Ensemble-in-Residence at The Juilliard School since 1987 and the Aspen Music Festival since 1970. Through its acclaimed performances, diverse programming, commissioning, extensive discography and educational mission, the American Brass Quintet has created a legacy unparalleled not only in the brass community, but in the chamber music field at large.

ABQ commissions by Robert Beaser, William Bolcom, Elliott Carter, Eric Ewazen, Anthony Plog, Huang Ruo, David Sampson, Gunther Schuller, William Schuman, Joan Tower and Charles Whittenberg, among many others, are considered significant contributions to contemporary chamber music and the foundation of the modern brass quintet repertoire. The ABQ's Emerging Composer Commissioning program has brought forth brass quintets by Gordon Beeferman, Trevor Gureckis, Shafer Mahoney, as well as Jay Greenberg whose work is recorded here.
With Perspectives, the American Brass Quintet continues its tradition of championing new works written for the quintet by distinguished American composers. The four compositions featured on Perspectives, the American Brass Quintet's eleventh CD release on the Summit label, showcase the vast array of styles for brass chamber music today, interpreted with ABQ's consummate style. With the introduction of new members and collaboration with emeritus members, this recording truly represents the past, present, and future of ABQ.
