Devoted: Songs of Woody Guthrie is the culmination of more than sixty years of Andy Irvine's lifelong admiration for Woody Guthrie's music. Inspired as a young musician by More Songs by Woody Guthrie and Cisco Houston, Irvine eventually developed a personal correspondence with Guthrie while the legendary songwriter was hospitalized at Greystone Park, exchanging letters and recordings through Sid Gleason. Those experiences laid the foundation for a project that has been evolving for more than three decades.
Joined by an exceptional group of musicians including Dónal Lunny, Bruce Molsky, Michael McGoldrick, John Doyle, Rens van der Zalm, and Nikola Parov, Irvine reinterprets Guthrie's songs through an unmistakably Irish musical lens while preserving the spirit and storytelling that made the originals timeless.
